Understanding Accreditation and Its Importance
Bushfire Planning and Design (BPAD) accreditation is an industry-recognised certification for professionals assessing and advising on bushfire risk in Australia. Administered by Fire Protection Association Australia (FPA Australia), BPAD accreditation ensures that practitioners have the knowledge and competency to carry out assessments in accordance with AS 3959 – Construction of buildings in bushfire-prone areas and relevant state planning frameworks.

Level 1

BAL Assessor

Recognises practitioners who determine Bushfire Attack Levels using simplified methods, and who provide advice on appropriate design and construction requirements

Level 2

Bushfire Planning Practitioners

Recognises practitioners who develop planning and building applications by applying prescribed design requirements in accordance with local regulatory requirements. This is in addition to the activities described for a Level 1 Practitioner.

Level 3

Bushfire Planning and Design Practitioners

Recognises practitioners who develop planning and building applications by developing alternative design solutions (excluding construction provisions) in accordance with local regulatory requirements. This is in addition to the activities described for a Level 1 and Level 2 Practitioner.
